The Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) on Wednesday, December 3, confirmed it would be awarding the Bloomfield Village Green Phase Special Assessment District (SAD) an additional $500,000.

“We are proud to strengthen our partnership with the Road Commission for Oakland County, as their continued support and additional funding are vital to the success of the Bloomfield Village road project,” said Mike McCready, Bloomfield Township Supervisor. “This collaboration ensures we can enhance safety, improve infrastructure, and foster growth within our community. Together, we’re building a better future for Bloomfield Township.”

The funding from RCOC will go directly to construction costs on the project; and while generous, the RCOC noted that this is a one-time commitment and does not set a precedent for future SAD projects.

“The Bloomfield Village Green Phase SAD is considered unique in many aspects including size, costs, and completion of a subdivision,” said a representative for RCOC. “We have provided this support because of the time critical nature of this project.”

Funding for these construction costs was made available from the RCOC due to additional funds they are expecting to receive from the recent road funding package that was passed by the Michigan state legislature.

Prior to this, RCOC had also confirmed additional funding of $500,000 that will go to the project’s administrative and engineering costs.

RCOC is currently working on a program that would provide additional support for all other SADs.
