Resident loses $4,300 to phone scammer

A senior Birmingham resident fell victim to a phone scam on Thursday, June 13, after the caller posed as someone from his bank investigating an attempted use of his debit card.

When the resident was on the phone, he gave the caller his name and debit card number, only to discover after the fact that he now had a pending transaction of over $4,300 due to the caller.

Birmingham police report an investigation is ongoing.
