Shoplifters distract clerk at downtown store

Three people stole more than $2,500 in clothing on Friday, May 28, from a downtown Birmingham store during a daytime shoplifting scam.

Birmingham police said a man and two women were at Johnny Was, 200 S. Old Woodward, when two of them distracted the store clerk while one of the females proceeded to conceal several items under her skirt. The three people then left the store together.

The loss was estimated at $2,570.

Birmingham police are investigating.
