Snap Taco, one of downtown Birmingham’s newest Mexican restaurants located at 126 S. Old Woodward, is moving forward as one of the city’s newest bistros after city commissioners approved the special land use permit and final site plan and design review during the Monday, May 4, meeting.
After opening in December 2025, Snap Taco came before the commission in February for initial bistro screening to pursue a bistro license. The license would allow for on-site liquor consumption while also setting specific requirements for the restaurant including outdoor dining.
Planning director Nick Dupuis told the commission that Snap Taco was at its final stop in the special land use permit process with a final site plan and design review. Dupuis said the application met all bistro requirements, the designs showing 35 seats indoors and an outdoor dining area with eight seats.
During previous meetings, Snap Taco had trouble figuring out how to work with the requirement for bistros to have outdoor dining. Dupuis said the restaurant’s proposal has the outdoor dining area in front of its neighbor, Faherty, which they received permission for from the property owner. The proposal also includes replacing an existing storefront window with a roll-up garage door.
With little discussion from commissioners, the commission voted 6-0 to approve the special land use permit and final site plan and design review for Snap Taco.
