Southbound Adams closing June 28 thru October
Southbound Adams Road between Long Land and Square Lake roads will close to southbound traffic next Monday, June 28, the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) announced, to rehabilitate and reconstruct the section of roadway.
RCOC said the project is expected to be completed by the end of October this year and to cost $2.8 million.
Throughout the project, northbound Adams Road will remain open to local traffic. The detour route for southbound traffic starting June 28 will be Square Lake Road to Coolidge Highway to Long Lake Road and back to Adams Road.
The project will be paid for by a combination of federal road funds, which will cover 57 percent of the costs, with the remainder shared by RCOC and the city of Troy.
The project, covering 1.02 miles, includes milling, or grinding off, of the existing asphalt surface and repaving with new asphalt; adding a new center left turn lane between Vineyards Drive and Westview Road; passing lanes and right turn extensions in many locations; installation of curbs and gutters; upgrading pedestrian crosswalks to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA); storm sewer and drainage improvements; and upgrading the traffic signal at the intersection of Long Lake and Adams roads.
