Stolen backpack returned without wallet

Birmingham police officers were called to the 3000 block of Woodward Avenue around 2 p.m. on Monday, August 19, after it was discovered that a wallet was taken from a backpack that was taken earlier and then returned to a local gas station.

A gas station employee called police to report the found backpack. Earlier that day, a 20-year-old male from East Lansing had eaten at a nearby restaurant and his backpack was stolen from his unlocked vehicle by an unknown person. Witnesses later reported that a white truck pulled into the gas station and placed the victim’s backpack near one of the gas pumps.

The victim stated only his wallet was missing and the gas station helped determine the suspect’s vehicle is registered to a 56-year-ole male from Monclova, Ohio.

An investigation is ongoing.
