Stroll downtown at Birmingham Art Walk

Shopping and culture – does it get any better? Not for those visiting downtown Birmingham for the inaugural Birmingham Art Walk event on Thursday, October 13, from 5-8 p.m.

Over a dozen participating merchants will be hosting an artist in their stores in the downtown area, as well as offering special shopping promotions, light refreshments and other unique offerings. A strolling barbershop quartet will add to the exceptional ambiance of the evening.

Participating Birmingham businesses include St. Croix Shop, Viga USA, Urban Wick Candle Bar, Fab'rik, Gazelle Sports, Rotate Boutique, Supernatural, Lux Travel Girl, DiMaggio Exquisite Jewelry & Fine Art, Hastens, West Elm, Anthropologie and Daxton Hotel.

Luxe Travel Girl, located at 114 South Old Woodward Avenue, Suite 3, will offer an evening reminiscent of “a jazz supper club, where guests will be treated to a moment in time that I love,” said Kamala Cummings, Luxury Travel curator. “My love for traveling the world, which encompasses art and music, will be showcased in my studio during the inaugural Birmingham Art Walk.” Featured artists include Jordan Carpenter and Ja’brion Graham. Carpenter is a Tennessee native, whose artwork is a permanent fixture in the Dallas, Texas African American Museum and focuses on hyper realism, using charcoal and graphite. Ja’brion Graham is a Michigan native, whose acrylic on canvas and wood art has been making waves in the metro Detroit area.

Daxton Hotel, located at 298 S. Old Woodward Avenue, will host mini tours of the art on display at the hotel.

“The city of Birmingham is very fortunate to be home to a community of businesses and residents that support, encourage, and appreciate art. At Daxton, we are home to more than 400 pieces of original art for the community to experience, so we are excited to welcome guests during the Birmingham Art Walk to stop by for a short tour and background on some of the permanent pieces that are housed here at the hotel,” said Daxton Hotel Manager Autumn Griffith.

Those attending the Birmingham Art Walk are invited to stroll and visit all of these wonderful businesses on this special evening. Birmingham Art Walk is sponsored by the Birmingham Shopping District (BSD), with special thanks to the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center for its support in partnering several local artists with local businesses.

“The Birmingham Shopping District continues to create events for the community to come together and explore all that downtown Birmingham businesses have to offer,” said Cristina Sheppard-Decius, Birmingham Shopping District Executive Director. “This unique event not only showcases our local businesses, but also talented local artists who will have their work on display throughout the evening,” she said.
