A 16-year-old Highland Park teenager was arrested in Birmingham the afternoon of Friday, January 16, in an alley off Peabody, south of Maple, after allegedly shoplifting over $1,300 worth of merchandise from a store on the 100 block of S. Old Woodard.

When Birmingham officer arrived to the store, they watched the 16-year-old run away with a bag full of goods, chasing him until they reached the Peabody alley and were able to stop him. They found the stolen merchandise both in his bag and on his persons, leading him to be arrested and cited for first degree retail fraud.

The police report indicated that two males were reported to be shoplifting, but only the Highland Park teen was noted as caught.
