Teen hurt in parking garage motorcycle mishap

A teen who decided to try a friend’s motorcycle at the top of Birmingham's Park Street parking structure apparently lost control and drove it into the south wall of the top deck, which flipped the driver over the wall to the ground level, leaving him with serious injuries on Friday, July 12.

According to Birmingham Police Chief Scott Grewe, the teenage driver fell from the top level to the ground level and suffered sever injuries. He was conscious at the scene and transported to a local hospital.

Birmingham officials reported on Saturday, July 13, they had spoken with the teen's father, who reported he had a severely broken leg and arm, as well as fractures to his pelvis and spine. The teen is currently incubated and likely headed to surgery in the near future.

The father expressed his gratitude for the care of his son by both the police and fire departments.
