Telegraph two-car crash costs life of newborn

A two-vehicle crash near 2187 S. Telegraph Road, in front of the IHOP restaurant in Bloomfield Township, on Saturday, May 10, cost the life of an infant.
The collision at about 1:30 p.m. involved a black Jeep Grand Cherokee and a white Honda Accord.
Preliminary investigation indicates the Accord was traveling east from a median turn-around when it was broadsided by the northbound Grand Cherokee. Police said. Witnesses reported the Grand Cherokee ran the red traffic signal at the median crossing.
Three occupants were inside the Accord, including a passenger that was 23-weeks pregnant. The passenger was extricated from the vehicle and transported to a local hospital. The passenger sustained serious injuries and underwent an emergency delivery at approximately 4 p.m. but the infant passed away the following day.
A child passenger in the Accord, properly secured in a car seat, sustained minor injuries, according to police. Both drivers suffered injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
The South Oakland County Crash Investigation Team responded to the scene and is assisting with the investigation.
