A retail theft suspect, after a foot chase by Bloomfield Township police on Monday, April 28, was arrested and arraigned in 48th District Court.

Bloomfield Township police responded to Dick’s Sporting Goods at 2015 S. Telegraph Road for a complaint of retail fraud that just occurred. When officers arrived on scene they were told a male just ran out of the rear of the store with Nike clothing that he stole. The subject was described as a black male, in his 30’s, wearing a light blue Nike shirt, blue jeans, black shoes and had a ponytail of dread locks.

A short time later officers found the suspect in front of Burlington Coat Factory carrying bags of clothing. When the suspect saw the officers, he dropped the bags and starting running through the parking lot. Officers chased the suspect, caught him, and placed him under arrest.

The suspect was identified as Russell Benjamin-Taylor Hamby, 38-year-old from Taylor. The bag Hamby was carrying had 23 pieces of Nike merchandise inside, totaling $915.

The Oakland Country Prosecutors Office issued criminal charges for retail fraud first degree and resisting and obstructing.

On Wednesday, April 30, Hamby was arraigned before Magistrate Richardson at the 48th District Court and received at $10,000 cash or surety bond.
