Thefts from cars spur warning from police
A rash of thefts from vehicles in Bloomfield Township has spurred police in the community to urge residents to take precautions against crime – such as locking their vehicles when they leave.
Bloomfield Township Police Public Information Officer Nick Soley said officers responded to multiple thefts from vehicles and attempted thefts from Tuesday, February 28, to Thursday, March 2, throughout the township.
“In all cases, the vehicles were unlocked and rummaged through,” Soley said. “In multiple incidents, personal property was stolen from the vehicles. These crimes occurred during the overnight hours.”
In addition to the spate of thefts from vehicles, a Ford Expedition was stolen on Thursday, March 2, from the 1000 block of Hampshire Drive in Bloomfield Township. Police said the vehicle was unlocked and the key fob was left inside the vehicle overnight when the theft occurred. The vehicle, which was severely damaged, was recovered the following day by police in Detroit.
“We remind the public to never leave your vehicle unlocked with personal belongings inside,” Soley said. “We (also) remind the public to never leave your vehicle unlocked with the keys inside.”
The case is under investigation. Police ask anyone with information about the theft to contact the Bloomfield Township Police Department at 248.433.7755.
