Thief arrested after fleeing crime scene

Detectives with the Birmingham Police Department were performing surveillance on a known larceny suspect on the morning of Monday, October 3, when the suspect was seen approaching a construction vehicle on the 100 block of Westchester Way, before walking back to his car and leaving the area at a high speed.

Birmingham detectives attempted to stop the suspect while he continued to flee at a high speed, ultimately leading the pursuit to be terminated.

Eventually, detectives located the vehicle around Southfield Road and Thirteen Mile Road, with minor damage caused by a road sign.

The construction crew working in the area told officers that a saw was missing from the vehicle.

The suspect was located and arrested for larceny from auto, after detectives checked the area with help from the Southfield Police Department and Beverly Hills Police Department.

Officers found several landscape equipment items and construction tools inside the suspect’s vehicle.
