Thieves target unlocked vehicles; one stolen

One vehicle was stolen and two others burglarized during the overnight hours on Friday, October 28, night into Saturday, October 29, in the 5000 block of Echo Road in Bloomfield Township, police said.

Police said the owner of a 2021 GMC Yukon spoke with officers on Saturday morning after the vehicle was stolen from their driveway sometime overnight. The victim told police they checked on the vehicle near midnight on Friday, and discovered in the morning that it was stolen.

Police said it wasn’t known if the vehicle was stolen with the keys or without the keys. The owner said nobody had permission to use the vehicle.

Investigators believe the theft is related to other larcenies that occurred overnight on the same 5000 block of Echo Road. Both of those vehicles were unlocked when they were entered and a phone charger was stolen.

All of the incidents are under investigation.

Police remind motorists to keep their vehicles locked when unoccupied, and to refrain from storing valuable items in your vehicle. Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to contact the Bloomfield Township Police Department at 248.433.7755.
