Three individuals were arrested on Monday, May 5, for attempted mail theft in Bloomfield Township after the car they were driving became stuck in a ditch.

On May 5, at approximately 1 p.m., the Bloomfield Township Police Department received a 911 call regarding a blue Chevrolet Malibu that had crashed and become stuck in a ditch near Quarton Road and Wing Lake Road. The caller stated that three individuals exited the Malibu and were seen running away from it.

Bloomfield Township patrol units responded to the area to search for the suspects. During this time, the Bloomfield Township dispatch center received several calls from residents reporting that the individuals were running through their yards.

A witness, who was also the initial caller, informed patrol officers that he observed a black male, later identified as Jailyn Joe Jackson, acting suspicious near a group of mailboxes. The witness saw Jackson open a mailbox and remove a package. When the witness approached Jackson and asked what he was doing, a vehicle that was parked down the street began honking. Jackson returned the package to the mailbox and walked back to the honking vehicle, later identified as the blue Chevrolet Malibu.

The witness stated that the Malibu attempted to turn around in a neighbor’s driveway but drove into the ditch and became stuck. At that point, the female driver, later identified as Aliza Armonie Braggs, along with the other passenger, Ernell Karhl Ware Jr., and Jackson, fled the vehicle on foot.

All three individuals were located a short time later and arrested by the Bloomfield Township Police Department.

The case was presented to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, which issued one count of attempted mail theft—a six-month misdemeanor—against each of the three individuals.

On May 8, all three were arraigned before Magistrate Richardson of the 48th District Court. Aliza Braggs received a $15,000 personal bond; Ernell Ware Jr. and Jailyn Joe Jackson each received a $5,000, 10 percent bond.
