Township safety paths contract awarded

By Dana Casadei

The contract for the 2023-2025 Jan Roncelli Safety Path Program was unanimously awarded to Italia Construction, Inc. on Monday, April 10, at the Bloomfield Township Board of Trustees meeting.

The safety path program encompasses 75.4 miles throughout Bloomfield Township.

Each year the Bloomfield Township engineering and environmental services department conducts an inspection of the safety paths that have been built to track needed repairs and actions, and last year officials identified roughly 20,450 square feet of paths that are needed for repairs for the 2023 safety path program.

In order to expedite the repairs, department staff proposed a three-year contract for the repair project, which is separate from the new construction program for 2023-2025.

Corey Almas, director of engineering and environmental services, said there were only two bids received for the multi-year project, with Italia Construction, Inc. being the lowest bidder for not only year one of the contract, but years two and three as well, asking for a total amount of $624,471.69 for all three years.

Trustee Neal Barnett noted that it was nice to see Italia Construction, Inc, was the lowest bidder given all the work they’ve done in the township and how involved they’ve been with the safety path program.

Italia Construction, Inc. was also the contractor for the previous 2021 and 2022 safety path projects.
