Vandals caught, accept responsibility

Two raucous men in their 20s were arrested early Saturday, September 4, after trashing the streetscape and a moped in downtown Birmingham, police said.

Police officers responded about 12:45 a.m. to E. Brown Street and S. Old Woodward where witnesses said some guys were hitting planters and toppling benches and trash cans. Police said officers arrived to find three white males running north on Peabody Street and a white female in the street pointing to them.

Officers were able to stop the men: a 28-year-old from Grosse Pointe Park; a 27-year-old from Royal Oak; and a 25-year-old from South Lyon.

Police said the Grosse Pointe Park man admitted to breaking property near The Daxton while walking home from 220 Merrill. Police said two of the men took responsibility for the property damage and were arrested.
