Watches, jewelry stolen by suspected theft ring

A homeowner in the 2200 block of Sudbury Way in Bloomfield Township came back to an unwanted surprise on Friday, March 29, when they discovered that their home had been broken into while they were gone, and a collection of watches and jewelry had been stolen, likely by a return of South American crime gangs, according to local officials.

Bloomfield Township police arrived that Friday to discover that the back glass door of the home had been broken into. Officers found muddy footprints throughout the residence. They also discovered that two bedrooms appeared to have been rummaged and searched through.

The homeowner said they had been out of town, and police believe the theft had taken place between Monday, March 25, and when it was discovered the following Friday.

The case is currently being investigated by the Bloomfield Township Investigations Unit.

Bloomfield Township police believe this case is connected to South American theft groups, which have been targeting the area, and ask anyone with information to call 248.433.7755.
