Witness sees vehicle being stolen on Puritan

A witness reported seeing a vehicle being stolen in the 100 block of Puritan in Birmingham around 2 a.m. Thursday, June 16.

A 40-year-old female resident reported that her vehicle had been stolen from her driveway overnight. She acknowledged the keys were inside the vehicle at the time it was stolen. A Birmingham police officer investigating spoke to a witness who reported seeing the vehicle's lights activate around 1:56 a.m., before it reversed down the driveway and headed northbound on Puritan at a high rate of speed.

Birmingham police believe the incident is tied to a series of similar incidents that have occurred in the area. They urge residents to lock their vehicles and take their keys/fobs with them.

There are no suspects at this time.
