Woman ducks scammers after weird phone call

A woman avoided attempts by a scammer to steal thousands of dollars over the phone after she caught on to the ploy and hung up the phone.

According to police, the woman, a resident of Birmingham living on the 200 block of S. Chester, got a notification while online on Wednesday, April 17, telling her to contact Apple support. When she did, the scammer asked for her bank account numbers and told her to go out and purchase thousands of dollars in retail gift cards.

She hung up the phone and immediately called Birmingham police, and luckily believes she did not lose any money.
