Woman victim of designer handbag scam

A woman from Birmingham was scammed out of $90 on Sunday, August 6, after ordering two designer handbags from what turned out to be a fake website she found on Instagram.

The victim, who lives in the 2000 block of Pembroke, told police that she ordered the bags but hadn’t received them even after being sent a confirmation email from the seller. She later realized that the website was completely different from when she ordered the bags and discovered the customer service email was now invalid.

She reportedly notified Instagram of the fake advertising and tried to get a refund from her credit card company.

Birmingham police say there is no suspects at this time.
