Woodward Dream Cruise Saturday, August 20
The Woodward Dream Cruise comes to town on Saturday, August 20, bringing thousands of classic cars and more than one million people from across the country to the Woodward Avenue corridor, from Ferndale to Pontiac, with stops in Birmingham and Bloomfield.
Adding to the festivities, the Birmingham Shopping District’s (BSD) Birmingham Cruise Event will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Due to an ongoing infrastructure improvement project along S. Old Woodward Avenue in downtown Birmingham, this year’s event will take place on the east side of Woodward Avenue along the streets and lot adjacent to Walgreens at 34300 Woodward Avenue.
“We are looking forward to this year’s Birmingham Cruise Event. We invite car enthusiasts of all ages to enjoy experiential exhibits from Chevrolet, music and live broadcasts from WOMC and over 170 cars on display throughout the event footprint,” said BSD Operations and Event Manager Jaimi Brook.
The Chevrolet sponsor exhibit will feature a variety of interactive displays including electric vehicles, Corvettes and more. WOMC 104.3 FM will be playing music and broadcasting live from the event throughout the day. Food vendors will be on-site with fresh squeezed lemonade, grilled hot dogs and sausages, frozen treats and more for purchase.
On Friday, August 19, car lovers can head north to the M1 Concourse for the Woodward Dream Show from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. where there is a curated and judged car show. Organizers promise more than 50 1932 Fords, which celebrate their 90th anniversary this year; 40 Lincolns and Firebirds, celebrating 100 and 55 years, respectively; over 50 American classic hot rods; over 100 Corvettes; and members and cars from 22 different car clubs.
Friday’s schedule is jam-packed with live entertainment, on-track experiences, children’s activities, which include i pedal cars, slot cars and RC cars, and a lively panel discussion featuring the next generation of cruisers and hot rod builders. Awards are given in each class and there will be an overall Best in Show.
