Rochester Police catch home burglar

A Sterling Heights man was arrested by Rochester police officers on Monday, August 6, in connection with a home burglary that morning in the 500 block of Miller Avenue, the Rochester Police Department said.

Officers were dispatched about 11:30 a.m. to the area near Parkdale and Letica for the report of a burglary that had just occurred. A witness in the area said they observed a man enter a home and then exit with property from the house. The man then got into a parked vehicle and drove away.

Police officers responded quickly to the call and located the vehicle, stopping it near Romeo Road and Main Street. The driver, Javaughn Dante Williams, 24, of Sterling Heights, resisted officers before being detained without any injuries, police said.

Williams was allegedly found to be in possession of several pieces of stolen electronics and jewelry missing from the home on Miller Avenue. Police said he also had property from a burglary that occurred the week prior on Elizabeth Street in Rochester.

Williams was subsequently arraigned on August 7 in Oakland County 52nd-3rd District Court in Rochester Hills on charges of second degree home invasion, a 15-year felony, and resisting/obstruction, a two-year felony.

Police said the investigation into the Elizabeth Street burglary is ongoing.
