BSD providing small business kits with PPE

As downtown Birmingham retailers and businesses begin to slowly reopen, their need for resources to protect themselves is being met with Small Business “Starter” Kits from the Birmingham Shopping District (BSD). The Small Business Starter Kits includes personal protective equipment (PPE) with various sizes of gloves, masks, a touchless thermometer and sanitizer. “This is a team effort to help businesses get back on their feet and we appreciate Oakland County’s support,” said Ingrid Tighe, executive director of the BSD. “The businesses are extremely grateful for these kits. When they are permitted to open their doors to the public, they’ll have equipment in place to keep their staff and customers safe.” Earlier this week, BSD staff members passed out kits in a “drive through” format in the parking lot behind City Hall at 151 Martin Street. Additional kits were scheduled to be passed out on Friday, May 29, from 10 a.m. – noon. Businesses should keep an eye on AllinBirmingham.com/COVID19resources for the announcement of additional distribution dates throughout June. The BSD is providing 150 kits and Oakland County provided an additional 250 kits. The BSD has also compiled a list of vendors with other important PPE available for downtown businesses, including masks, antimicrobial disinfectants and plexiglass guards. Birmingham businesses that are not able to pick up a kit are encouraged to contact the BSD to arrange a special pick up or drop off time at info@allinbirmingham.com.
