Lowe's scammed out of two water heaters

A suspect who returned a water heater at the Bloomfield Township Lowe's for a cash refund on Monday, January 29, ended up scamming the store out of two more water heaters, each worth almost $600.

Management at the Lowe's at 1801 S. Telegraph Road reported that at approximately 7:30 p.m., a suspect entered the store and returned a water heater for a cash refund using a receipt from a different Lowe's store location. The suspect then went out onto the sales floor and selected two water heaters and five other items.

The suspect paid cash for the five items, but told the cashier that he had already paid for the water heaters. He then left the store without paying for the two water heaters, which are each valued at $589, according to store personnel.

According to Bloomfield Township police, the suspect was known to employees of the Lowe's store, and it is believed he comes in from out of state.

Bloomfield Township police said the crime is currently being investigated by the Bloomfield Township Investigations Unit.
