Man killed by semi while crossing Telegraph
A 70-year-old man from Orchard Lake who was traveling eastbound across the northbound lanes of Telegraph in order to enter the Bloomfield Town Square Shopping Center was struck and killed by a semi-truck and trailer traveling northbound on Telegraph around 1:15 p.m. on Monday, September 11, Bloomfield Township police reported.
Police, fire and rescue responded to the crash site at Telegraph near Bataan Road in Bloomfield Township. According to Bloomfield Township Police Public Information Officer Nick Soley, the male driver in the car was the only occupant in his vehicle. He was transported to St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Soley said drugs and/or alcohol did not appear to be a factor with the driver of the semi-truck. It is currently unknown if they played any factor with the deceased driver, as investigators are currently waiting for toxicology results.
Members of the South Oakland County Crash Investigations Team were called out and responded to the scene to conduct a full investigation of the crash. The Oakland County Sheriff's Office and Michigan State Police also responded to assist in the investigation.
