Facebook Marketplace exchange goes awry

A Facebook Marketplace purchase exchange didn’t go quite as planned on Sunday, June 30, at Hollywood Market, 1525 S Opdyke Road in Bloomfield Township when instead of a sale, it ended with an iPhone 15 being stolen.

The victim told police that when the suspect arrived he began to bargain the price down from a price they had agreed upon through her posting on Facebook Marketplace. When the seller did not budge, stating that the price was firm, the suspect grabbed the phone and ran away with it.

Described to Bloomfield Township police as a light-skinned black male in his late teens to early 20s with short dreads that were tied back, the 5’3” suspect was not located after the victim and officers canvassed the area.

The Bloomfield Township Investigations divisions has been assigned the case, and those with information are asked to call 248.433.7755.

For those buying or selling products from an individual online, the police department’s lobby and parking lot can be used as a safe exchange zone for those in-person meet-ups, the police advised.
