Birmingham Towers plans postponed again

Following a contentious discussion between Birmingham’s Planning Board, members of the public and a private developer, the special land use permit application for Birmingham Towers, being constructed at 479 S. Old Woodward, was postponed for the second time during the Wednesday, June 25, meeting.

Following the Monday, June 23, Birmingham City Commission meeting, the city will begin looking into complex partnerships between the city and private entities on public property.

Man arrested on warrant in Birmingham

A Detroit man was arrested at 5 a.m. in Birmingham near the area of Woodward Avenue and Oakland Avenue on Saturday, June 28, after police found warrants out for his arrest.

Traffic stop leads to arrest on warrant

While driving on Old Woodward Avenue in Birmingham the night of Saturday, June 28, a Berkley man made the mistake of making a U-turn in a prohibited zone, leading him to be pulled over and arrested on a warrant that had been issued from the city’s police department.

A Birmingham woman was arrested around 1 a.m. on Sunday, June 29, after patrol officers discovered a warrant for her arrest while running her license plate.

Lead testing program for kids ready to start

After multiple years of testing the municipal water in the beleaguered city of Flint every six months, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in May of this year determined that lead levels in Flint’s municipal water consistently measure at three parts per billion (ppb). That matches lead levels in drinking water supplies of Birmingham and Bloomfield Township and is far below the federal actionable levels of 15 ppb or state actionable levels of 12 ppb as of January 2025.

The race to succeed Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Oakland County) for the 11th congressional district is officially on. First to the starting blocks is state Senator Jeremy Moss (D- Southfield, Bloomfield Hills, Bloomfield Township, Auburn Hills, Lake Angelus, Lathrup Village, Pontiac, parts of Detroit, Waterford and Southfield Township), who currently serves as Michigan Senate President Pro Tempore and has spent his tenure in the state legislature tackling the biggest issues facing Michiganders, and noted that in 2023, when the Democrats controlled the state House, Senate and governor, he had the most bills signed in the Senate.
